Conservation Plan
Even though the population of the Coqui has slowed down, it still continues to grow; there are some possible solutions to possibly solve this problem. Caffeine and citric acid have both proved effective as pesticides during tests, although caffeine is required to have authorization; citric acid is already on the Environ-mental Protection Agency’s list of non-regulated, minimum-risk pesticides. There is also the use of hand capturing, and modifying the habitat, but these solutions are not as effective as others. Even though these solutions may not be useful to some, and easy way to help you, is to remove leaves, compost, wood piles, and any debris that holds moisture. These solutions could help to rid of the 8,000 population density of frogs/acre.

The Threats

The threats the Coqui tree frog has brought to Hawaii’s forests is becoming more and more critical each day. Some of the things the Coqui tree frog has caused is one, they are horrendous eaters, they eat mainly insects which is good for the Caribbean, but bad for Hawaii because the birds that live in the forests eat mostly insects, and if the Coqui population continues to grow, then the birds will continue to near extinction from Hawaii, and maybe the world. The Coqui has also become a threat to grower’s sales of Hawaii’s flowers and nursery products. The resorts in Hawaii are also worried that the infestation of the Coqui tree frog will drive tourists away.
